Oregon Coast Experience

Astoria Oregon is one of the oldest settlements west of the Mississippi. No wonder there are so many legends and ghost stories about this town on the Oregon coast. The Liberty Theater has been in Astoria for years. This is one of the places said to be haunted. Many famous people have come to this theater such as Jack Benny, Duke Ellington and Guy Lombardo, Even gangsters like Al Capone have visited this theater.

Right now the Liberty Theater is said to be haunted by a man named Paul. He is said to be very handsome so his nickname is Handsome Paul. He wears a white tuxedo and a panama hat. Though he looks nice sometimes he’s not so nice. The movie Lovecraft was filmed at the Del Ray Beach just south of Astoria. Cast and crews said that Paul haunted the set. He slams doors and makes other rude noises. This has all been noted by the Clatsop County Historical Society.

There have been other ghosts seen at the theater. There have been strange happenings such as things flying through the air,knobs unscrewing themselves from appliances and utilities. The firehouse has also been reported as haunted. The town has a history from the early century of men being shanghaied here. Many horror movies have been written because of the legends in Astoria, Oregon.
