boiler bay

a beautiful spot to see birds, whales and the J Marhoffer

Boiler Bay is part of the Oregon Coast. It is rugged and wonderful to see. It is a great place to watch the wild surf on the rocky spurs. This is a beautiful viewpoint especially for watching migrating and residing Gray Whales. Remember to take your binoculars and a camera! This is also one of the best places to see ocean birds in Oregon such as the Shearwater, Jaeger, Albatross, Grebe, Pelican, Loon, Oystercatcher and Murrelet. An explosion sank the J. Marhoffer in 1910 and you can see the ship’s boiler at low-tide. It’s kind of miraculous that this boiler can still be seen. Of course that’s why this spot is called Boiler Bay. You can find trails to some of Oregon’s best tide pools. The trail is short and rough but you’ll find interesting sights along the trail. If you visit the Oregon Coast be sure to visit this interesting spot.
