This past weekend we went to Newport. We were going to go to Lincoln City for the city wide garage sale but we didn’t make it. There are always a lot of fun things to do at the Oregon coast and one fun thing is camping.

I was born and pretty much raised in California so I hadn’t had much experience with camping. The first time my husband and I went camping was last summer. He is an Oregon boy so he knows all about camping. We stopped at Honeyman camp ground but I wasn’t too impressed. Since it was summer it was crowded and very noisy. Also they had given us a really small camp spot. I guess they thought since there was only two of us that we wouldn’t need a big spot. Little did they know that we had bought a huge tent because I wanted to be able to stand up in the tent. Needless to say we were not able to have a fire. We still managed to have fun but decided that next time we would bring an air mattress and make sure we got a good sized camp spot.

This past weekend we stayed at Beverly Beach. This was a much better camp site to me. We were able to pick our own spot because it was off season. It was beautiful outside and we were able to find a huge camp spot. It did get a lot colder later that night so I’ll have to remember to bring extra blankets. We still had a lot of fun. It was a little noisy but at least there were no screaming babies or barking dogs. We also went with other people so that made it more fun. We had a camp fire, roasted marshmallows and made smores. I have a lot of pictures but I’m having some trouble getting them on my computer. I think I need a new computer. All in all this was the best camping experience I’ve had. The people we went with are hooked on camping too. My dad wants to go, but the hard part is getting my mom to go.

Take it from a city girl like me, camping is fun. Don’t let your first experience disappoint you. Learn from it and try to do things better the next time. Camping in Newport is only $13 and is a cheap way to take a trip. Make sure you check the weather because camping in the rain is no fun.
