Tillamook Oregon
Tillamook is a chain of fishing villages and resort communities. There are several cities in this Oregon coast community. Each one is unique. There are beautiful beaches and plenty of sites to see.
Manzanita, Nehalem, Rochaway Beach and Garibaldi are cities surrounding Tillamook. There is a cheese factory known as Tillamook Cheese Factory. You can taste many different yummy cheese samples here. There are also huge blimp hangars used in the 1993 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie. These hangars are the largest wooden buildings in the world.
East of Tillamook in August 1933, a 290,000 acre forest fire known as The Tillamook Burn wiped out half a billion feet of timber. Now it’s almost fully reforested area is a tribute to tree planting by volunteers. South of Tillamook and north of Neskowin on US10 Three Capes Loop is a 35 mile walk. It is worth the detour. Cape Meares has a state park wildlife refuge. It is also a contorted spruce called the Octopus Tree. Cape Lookout is a 500 foot cliff. You can take a 2.5 mile hike out to the far edge of this cliff for a view and whale watching perch.
The third cape is Kiwanda which is a low, sandy peninsula. It is a favorite launch for hang gliders. Below is the beach where fishermen launch dories into the surf.
Tillamook is a wonderful place. I hope to visit this place soon. If you have any pictures of Tillamook be sure to let us know. We can’t pay for them but if you let us post them here we will put a link to your website and be sure to credit you as the photographer. Enjoy Tillamook Oregon if you get as chance this summer.
