How I Got Hooked on the Oregon Coast

Published by Amanda at 12:00 am under Travel

The first time I visited the Oregon coast was the summer before my grandpa died. We were looking for a nice, affordable place to stay. While we were driving along in Yachats, which is only about 30 minutes away from Newport, we saw a sign for the Shamrock Lodgettes. It was a neat sign, big and green with a four leaf clover after the letters on the sign. We thought it sounded like a neat place to stay so we drove in.

The lodgettes are nice and spacious. They are surrounded by trees and beach. It’s like you’re camping in the middle of the beach. We thought because the lodgettes were right on the beach that they would be expensive. We found out that the prices were pretty reasonable. If you get a one bedroom lodgette it would cost $70. Of course that was a few years ago, but it was very reasonable even then. We decided to take a room.

Our room was nice and cozy with plenty of space. My parents took the bedroom and my sister and I slept in the living room on a roll out bed. The lodgettes all have a sink and even dishes to eat and drink out of. There was also a microwave, refrigerator and wood stove. We stayed warm and enjoyed the great view. There is also an indoor spa for your enjoyment in a seperate building next to the lodgettes. We enjoyed looking at the trees and exploring nature. We also enjoyed a perfect view of the ocean and walked right out onto the beach. The beach was right outside our back door. Surprisingly enough, there weren’t too many people on the beach even though this was the middle of summer. We enjoyed the friendly service and cozy stay at the lodgettes so much that we decided to come back another time.

We came back in October of that same year and again three years later. We have since moved to Oregon. We don’t live on the coast, but we visit as often as we can. I liked the lodgettes so much that I decided to spend my honeymoon there in November of 2004. We got a two bedroom room with a kitchen, microwave, fridge, wood stove and four beds for only $100 a night. We didn’t need the two bedroom, but the Shamrock Lodgettes had become more popular so that was the only room they had. They also have regular rooms that are not lodgettes if that is more to your liking. They also have a mailing list that they put you on if you’d like and they send special rates to you. We find this very convenient. Maybe one day we’ll have the money to go back there. My husband also enjoyed the lodgettes and we are hoping to return there soon. The Shamrock Lodgettes and the Oregon coast, what a perfect combination for a romantic, relaxing vacation that the whole family can enjoy or that can be shared by two. That is how I became hooked on the Oregon coast.
